چکیده
This work is intended as a practical guide to the examination and cultivation of micro-organisms, especially of those that are supposed to be connected with disease. So far, the authors have fully and satisfactorily succeeded in their purpose. There is no work in the English language which, in so small a space, gives such accurate and trustworthy accounts of the best methods of working at this difficult and delicate subject. There is little attempt at originality, either in method or in pursuit; the work simply represents the most approved practical plans of working at the subject in pathology and experiment. The selections have been made with the judgment and sincerity of full knowledge and honest discrimination ; we are not worried either with the hobbies of laboratories, or with the abuse of investigators, and the whole subject is presented in a simple and workmanlike spirit, which is both soothing and satisfactory. We must once again bestow a word of praise on the

A novel murine model of pharyngeal candidiasis with local symptoms characteristic of pharyngeal thrush produced by using an inhaled corticosteroid.
We established a novel murine model of pharyngeal candidiasis maintaining stable yeast population and local symptoms characteristic of pharyngeal thrush. The persistent Candida-infection was prolonged by inhalation of beclomethasone dipropionate corticosteroid. The severity of infection lesions was evaluated by determining viable cell number of Candia albicans and scores representing symptomati...
متن کاملEpidemiology of visceral mycoses in autopsy cases in Japan: the data from 1989 to 2009 in the Annual of Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan.
To identify recent trends in the frequency of mycoses in autopsy cases, we analyzed, on a four-year basis, the 1989-2009 data in the Annual of Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan. Of the 13,787 (9235 males) autopsies conducted in 2009, 4.5% (633/13,787) involved fungal infections and of the latter, 60.3% (368/633) were found to have severe clinical manifestations. Among the 610 (96.4%) cases in...
متن کاملAssessment of Alkaline Phosphatase Activity in Hydatid Cyst Protoscolices and Liver Tissue as a Pathological Biomarker
Introduction: Hydatid cyst disease is caused by the protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme is required for metabolism, physiology, immunology, and nutrients absorption in parasite. The aim of this study was to compare the level of ALP activity (as a pathological biomarker) in hydatid cyst protoscolices (HCP) with that of sheep liver tissue and to determine t...

To the Editor, With this letter we provide an update on a case of eumycetoma caused by Madurella mycetomatis in a mare that we previously reported on [1]. The mare was euthanized in May 2013 at age 9 years following a case of acute colic. Throughout her life, the mare foaled three times and had one miscarriage. During the 6 years between the first diagnosis and euthanasia, abundant granulation ...

The first case of cryptococcosis caused by Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii in a new species of bandicoot (Bandicota indica) is described. The animal was trapped in a bamboo thicket in a park located in the city of Jabalpur, India. On necropsy, pathological lesions were seen in the lungs and liver and C. neoformans var. grubii was isolated from the lungs, liver, kidneys, spleen and brain but...
